CINCINNATI — One of three school tax levies in Hamilton County passed this midterm election. It’s uncertain how the others school districts will move forward.

What You Need To Know

  • Cincinnati Public Schools’ levy passed with nearly 70% of the votes in favor of it
  • Loveland City Schools’ levy failed with a little over half the voters voting against it
  • Nearly 60% of the voters voted against the Winton Woods City Schools levy

Cincinnati Public Schools’ levy passed with nearly 70% of the votes in favor of it. But the other districts were not getting nearly enough votes to make it over the hump.

Loveland City Schools’ levy failed with a little over half the voters voting against it. Nearly 60% of the voters voted against the Winton Woods City Schools levy.

Winton Woods City Schools proposed 5.4 mills and $3 million annually for five years to cover school construction and other improvements. Loveland City Schools asked for 4.9 mills for current operating expenses.

Cincinnati Public Schools asked for a renewal with 6.9 mills and $52 million for operation costs annually for 10 years.

“Levy renewals where you’re not asking for new money, but you’re just renewing current levy amounts, those pass,” said Jerry Rampelt with Support Ohio Schools. “Over 90% of those pass,” he said.

If the levy in Loveland passed, it would have cost taxpayers an additional $14 per month per $100,000 in home value. Taxpayers in Winton Woods would have been paying an additional $16 per month.
