Tropical Storm Kate formed in the open Atlantic Monday morning but weakened to a tropical depression not long after. The system dissipated in the open Atlantic Wednesday evening.

What You Need To Know

  • The disturbance is far northeast of the Leeward Islands
  • The system fell apart on Wednesday
  • Its remnants will remain well out to sea

After spending a couple of days meandering northeast of the Leeward Islands, Tropical Depression Ten gathered enough strength to become Tropical Storm Kate on Monday.

After that, it moved over open water as a tropical depression. Kate slowly headed north with little thunderstorm activity around it. Its swirling circulation finally fell apart late Wednesday.

The remnants of Ida continue to drop heavy rain across parts of the eastern U.S., though. Tropical Storm Larry formed off the coast of Africa Wednesday morning, while another disturbance in the western Caribbean has a low chance of development.
