WADSWORTH, Ohio (AP) — The pilot of a small aircraft died when the plane he was flying crashed as it was departing from an Ohio airport in the evening on Saturday.

Robert Taylor, 64, was taking off from the Wadsworth Municipal Airport when the nose of the plane hit the runway, causing the plane to flip over and catch on fire, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. and the airport closed after the crash.

The highway patrol is trying to determine the make and model of the plane Taylor was flying. They described it as “a single engine amateur-built aircraft.” They did not report any other injuries or fatalities.

Wadsworth is located about 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of Akron, Ohio.
