BuckeyeThon, which began in 2001, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the state of Ohio and raises money and awareness for children battling cancer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, according to organizers.

“The Buckeye experience is all about preparing students for citizenship and BuckeyeThon is an extraordinary example of this. At the heart of the effort is an inspirational representation of how a campus and community can come together as one ‘For The Kids’ at Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” said Melissa Shivers, OSU vice president for Student Life on the website.

In 2020, BuckeyeThon raised more than $2.2 million. Since its inception, BuckeyeThon has raised more than $12 to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, organizers said.

BuckeyeThon’s Dance Marathon, the group’s largest event, is the celebration of the fundraising that OSU has done for the year in support of the hospital.
