COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the seventh time this season and won Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Stroud lit up No. 7 Michigan State on Saturday when the Buckeyes routed the Spartans 56-7 and eliminated them from the Big Ten East race.
Stroud was 32 of 35 passes for 432 yards and had a career-high six touchdowns against the Spartans’ sketchy pass defense, which had allowed more yards through the air than any in major college football.
The redshirt freshman completed 17 straight passes, setting an Ohio State record. The Buckeyes’ previous record of 16 was held by J.T. Barrett (2017 vs. Penn State) and Justin Fields (2020 vs. Nebraska and Penn State), according to Ohio State officials.
Stroud ties Barrett for the Ohio State record for most Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, according to OSU officials.
The impressive win on Saturday against Michigan State bumped the Buckeyes up to No. 2 in the AP Top 25 College Football poll that was released on Sunday.
Ohio State will wrap up this season on Saturday with the annual clash with That Team Up North.
