CLEVELAND — Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and other local dignitaries helped open the new Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Center on Tuesday.
The $15.3 million facility opened at 15401 Miles Ave. and is said to offer recreational programs for people of all ages. The city of Cleveland also said it has made improvements to Frederick Douglass Park as part of the project.
Construction on the center started in March 2020 after City Council approved funding for the project in 2018.
The city of Cleveland said the 45,000-square-foot recreation center includes an indoor aquatics facility, a gymnasium, lockers and changing rooms. The facility has a fitness room, multi-purpose rooms and classrooms in addition to required lobby/circulation and administrative spaces.
“I am excited about the opening of the new Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Center” said Councilman Joe Jones. “This facility will accommodate the youth and senior residents of Ward 1 with its state-of-the-art amenities and serve as a hub for communal resources.”
