COLUMBUS, Ohio – The nation’s best volleyball players will square off in Nationwide Arena this week, attracting fans across the country.
Bri McCombs and Tamika Drake spent some of their day Wednesday watching the Wisconsin Badgers practice ahead of the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball national semifinals Thursday.
“It’s going to be a cool environment for the Final Four this week,” said McCombs.
Louisville, Nebraska, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin will square off in Columbus Thursday. Louisville will take on Wisconsin at 7:00 p.m., with Pittsburgh and Nebraska playing after at 9:30 p.m.
“I personally love Columbus a lot,” said McCombs. “It’s been a lot of city lights and this arena is huge.”
The pair are also in town to work the ABCA Coaches Convention, which happens each year at the site of the Final Four matches. Drake is a former Ohio State volleyball player.
“There are going to be a couple battles on the court,” said Drake.
Matt Geer, the head volleyball coach at Webber International Academy, traveled to Columbus from central Florida. He’s also here for the coaches convention, but he’s ready to watch some volleyball, too.
“This is my first time in here, its large, its huge,” said Geer. “I know the atmosphere is going to be electric.”
The winners will play in the championship match on Saturday, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
