Once a month, the church typically serves approximately 6,000 pounds of food to 100 people in need.
On Sunday, the church celebrated the grand opening of its new facility, which features a walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
The pastor of the church, Scott Hindel, is excited to see this initiative grow, especially considering its humble beginnings.
“This literally started in a utility closet in the church,” Hindel said.
He credits the food pantry’s success to volunteers, including Regina Ravine, who orders food for the pantry.
Ravine said each person who comes through the monthly drive-through distribution receives 60 pounds of food, and the church’s new appliances will make it possible to distribute more nutritious items.
“In the freezer this month, they are getting ground beef, a poultry item, another beef item, macaroni and cheese and pork chops,” Ravine said.
