Cleveland Police did not say how the woman died.

Tuesday’s incident happened after the National Weather Service warned people on Sunday and Monday to avoid walking onto the frozen lake. The National Weather Service said that strong south winds could push ice away from the shore.

“Anyone who ventures out onto the ice could become stranded with little warning if the ice separates from the shore,” the National Weather Service in Cleveland said.

Despite the warnings, dozens of visitors at Edgewater Park ventured onto the ice on Sunday.

On Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard said it rescued 18 people on an ice floe near Catawba Island. The group became stranded when ice broke away from the coast while the group used snowmobiles on the Lake Erie ice, the Coast Guard said.
