Like many others, she felt hopeless with the news of the invasion of her home country, but she decided to do something about it.

“I was just weeping and a mess of snot all day, and then the next day, I said I had to do something, so I started looking into rallies and marches,” she said.

Which brought her to the Cincinnati March for Ukraine alongside hundreds of other supporters. Nemesh brought along her eight- and 10-year-old sons, too.

“I want them to know their heritage,” Nemesh said.

The march went from Fountain Square to City Hall where Mayor Aftab Pureval spoke to the crowd.

Nemesh said she hopes that those that saw the march and others around the world understand what is being fought for.

“We are fighting for our life,” she said. “For our families, homes and freedom. Basic, basic human rights.”

For Nemesh, seeing all the Ukrainian flags, familiar friends and a large group supporting the place she called home, means a lot.

“I feel proud of being Ukrainian,” she said. “I feel very supported.”
