COLUMBUS, Ohio — Shelby native, wife and mother of two Megan Davidson didn’t have the traditional route to becoming a figure competitor.

What You Need To Know

  • Megan Davidson was diagnosed with cervical cancer and survived
  • During that time, she turned to the gym
  • She finished 8th overall in the Arnold this year
  • Davidson said she hopes to take part in the Arnold Classic again next year

In 2012 she found out she was pregnant with her first child, a daughter, but at her six-week appointment, tests revealed some additional troubling news.

“I actually found out I was being diagnosed with cervical cancer. So through that journey of healing and everything else, I found my way into the gym,” said Davidson.

A few years later and after multiple surgeries, Davidson was cancer free.

“You have to gather your wits and decide, am I going to be scared about this or am I gonna fight this?” said Davidson of her cancer diagnosis.

She trained with her husband Mike, who was previously an MMA fighter, and began competing and finding success while changing her outlook on life.

“I’m stronger mentally and physically. I’m able to be a good role model for my children and women, especially mothers who don’t see themselves as having time to take care of themselves nutrition-wise or just wanting to look good, feel good in their skin,” said Davidson.

“You know it’s huge to have that type of role model on both sides, for both our son and our daughter. It’s absolutely amazing seeing her go through and do everything she has and stick with it,” said Mike Davidson.

Last year, Davidson earned the 2021 Northcoast Championships Figure Overall Champion.

She said the thought of one day turning pro and capturing top prize at the Arnold would be a dream come true.

“I’ve worked so hard for this and being able to show that off and show my hard work, and be rewarded in such a way, there’s no better feeling. I would like to go as far as I can, wherever that might take me. So I’m just open to all the possibilities,” said Davidson.

In amateur competition, Davidson on Thursday, March 3 was able to advance to the finals as a top-eight competitor.

Davidson said she hopes to take part in the Arnold Classic again next year.
