DAYTON, Ohio — Alter used strong defense and three-point shooting to get back to the OHSAA Division II championship game, defeating Bishop Hartley, 69-33, in the state semifinals.

The Knights forced 29 turnovers to keep Hartley to 33 points, while countering with eight made 3-point shots on the offensive end.

Alter also was very crisp with its ball movement, collecting 21 assists on 26 made field goals.

Sophomore Riley Smith was the leading scorer with 19, while freshman Maddie Moody added 14.

Hartley’s Ella Brandewie collected a double-double with 10 points, and 11 rebounds.

Alter has had just five games this season where its opponent played within single digits, with the Knights winning four of them.

The Knights have won four state titles previously, including three straight from 2015-17.

Alter will play Sheridan, which survived a wild, triple-overtime thriller over Norton in the first Division II semifinal Thursday.

The championship game will be played Saturday at 2 p.m., and may be viewed live on Spectrum News 1, with OHSAA Championship Gameday coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m., hosted by MaryLee Melendez and Dave Cecutti.
