OHIO — The Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day is finally here, and better yet, the team will face off against their in-state opponent, the Cleveland Guardians.

The two-game series kicks of at 4:10 p.m. at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Both teams head into the series 2-2.

If history is any indication, the Guardians lead all the series total against the Reds, 69-54. However, last year, the teams split six games with each other.

For the Guardians, RHP Shane Bieber will start the game. Bieber, who has a 1.93 ERA, agreed to stay with Guardians after signing a one-year, $6 million contract. He opened for the first three games of the 2022 season.

The Reds have RHP Tyler Mahle lined up. Mahle’s debut came in 2017 when the team called him up, but within the next few years, the Reds sent him back down to Triple A. In the 2021 season, Mahle secured an Opening Day rotation spot and earned his way to open for the team’s home opener this year.

Both sides also have a slew of injuries. For the Guardians, RHP James Karinchak, OF Josh Naylor, RHP Cody Morris, RHP Carlos Vargas, C Luke Maile are on the injured list.

The Reds’ injured list includes RHP Tejay Antone, SS Jose Barrero, RHP Luis Castillo, RHP Justin Dunn, LHP Mike Minor, OF Max Schrock, RHP Lucas Sims and INF Donovan Solano.
