Voting in Cleveland: Election Day for Ohio 2022 Primary

Voters across northeast Ohio are heading to the polls to vote in the Primary Election.

Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3. 

Voters will decide who will represent them in races locally and statewide in November. 

Here’s a look at the major races: 

Governor: Republicans will select Mike DeWine, Ron Hood, Jim Renacci or Joe Blystone. Democrats will select Nan Whaley or John Cranley. 

Secretary of State: Democrats will choose incumbent Frank LaRose or John Adams. Republican Chelsea Clark is unopposed in the primary.

U.S. Senate: Republican will vote for Mark Pukita, Jane Timken, JD Vance, Matt Dolan, Mike Gibbons,  osh Mandel or Neil Patel.

Democrats will select Morgan Harper, Traci TJ Johnson or Tim Ryan.

Congressional Primaries: Cuyahoga County voters in two districts will select representatives.

In District 7, Republicans will choose from Anthony Leon Alexander, Charlie Gaddis, Max Miller or Jonah Schulz. Democrats will choose Matthew Diemer, Patrick A. Malley or Tristan Rader.

In District 11, Republicans will choose Eric J. Brewer or James Hemphill. Democrats will choose Shontel Brown or Nina Turner.

Cuyahoga County Executive: Cuyahoga County voters will also select representatives for county executive. Republican Lee Weingart will run uncontested. Democrats will choose between Chris Ronayne and Tariq K. Shabazz.

Cuyahoga County Council: All but one Cuyahoga County Council seat is uncontested in the primaries. In District 9, voters will choose from Democrats Marcia L. McCoy, Meredith M. Turner and Patricia A. Young.

Judicial primaries: Five 8th District Court of Appeals judicial races are uncontested primaries.

There are 21 Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas primary races, all of which are uncontested except a juvenile-division seat with full term commencing Jan. 1, 2023. Four Democrats will face off in the primary: Anne C. McDonough, Tracy Martin Peebles, Retanio Rucker and Joseph F. Russo. Republican Pamela A. Hawkins is unopposed.
