LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Welcome to the first Saturday in May, where in Kentucky it means only one thing—it’s Derby Day.
Racing begins at Churchill Downs at 10:30 a.m. and the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby takes place at 6:57 p.m. Twenty horses will take off from the gates and Zandon was named the morning line favorite during the post position draw.
The Kentucky Derby, presented by Woodford Reserve, is a top rank, Grade I stakes race for 3-year-old Thoroughbred horses. The race distance is one and one-quarter miles long. The winning horse will be blanketed in the garland of roses crafted by Kroger.
