It’s officially theĀ first day of summer, but we’ve been feeling the heat for a little while now.

What You Need To Know

  • Hot temperatures concentrate on the Midwest
  • Heat indices could reach the low 100s for many
  • Temperatures cool down a little on Wednesday

Last week, many areas were 15-20 degrees above their average temperature. Although this week is not as hot, we’re still seeing the heat, and some areas could reach new records.

The heat is concentrated in the center of the country today, with the Midwest taking the brunt of it. Temperatures are about 10-15 degrees above the normal, but you’ll notice areas in Wisconsin are over 20 degrees above the normal.

This puts temperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s across these areas. The humidity is also high, leading to high heat indices. This means it feels hotter than what the outside temperature is, even in the shade.

Some areas could even reach record highs today.

The heat calms on Wednesday, but we still stay about 5-10 degrees above normal temperatures.

Heat safety

Take extra precaution if you have to be outside in these hot areas today.

Drink plenty of water, and take breaks indoors if you have to be outside. Heat-related illnesses can settle in quickly in this heat and humidity.

It’s also hot for our furry friends, not just us. Make sure you take extra care of them in this heat.

Stay safe!
