COLUMBUS, Ohio — The funeral for Donovan Lewis, the 20-year-old Black man shot and killed by a Columbus police officer in the early hours of Aug. 30, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 the family announced Wednesday.

It will begin at noon at Christian Valley Baptist Church in Columbus and the public is welcome to attend, although seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, which body-cam footage shows happening almost immediately after an officer opened the door to Lewis’ bedroom during an attempt to arrest him on multiple warrants.

Lewis died a short time later at a local hospital.
