COLUMBUS, Ohio — On Aug. 30, Donovan Lewis, 20, was shot and killed by Columbus Police officer Ricky Anderson.

Anderson has since been placed on administrative leave while the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation handles the investigation into the shooting.
Rebecca Duran never thought she’d be grieving her son. While they were always a family of activists, she said that it’s been Donovan’s spirit guiding her to get real change.
“He wasn’t his judge, he wasn’t the jury and he ended up being his executioner,” said Duran of Anderson.
Duran said that her son struggled with mental illness throughout his life.
Duran said that when she got the news that something happened at her son’s apartment, she couldn’t get any information from officers on the scene.
It wasn’t unitl over an hour later she heard that Donovan had been transferred to Grant Hospital. When she arrived, he was pronounced dead.
