House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was “violently assaulted” inside the couple’s San Francisco home early Friday morning, Pelosi’s spokesman said in a statement.

The assailant is in police custody and the motive for the attack is under investigation, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement

Paul Pelosi, 82, was taken to a hospital, “where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery,” Hammill said.

Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack.

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill said.

Spectrum News has reached out to the San Francisco and U.S. Capitol police departments for comment.

Paul Pelosi is a businessman who owns Financial Leasing Services, a real estate and venture capital investment and consulting firm. He and Nancy Pelosi have been married for 59 years.
