INDECENT, described as a play with music, is inspired by the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance, and charts the history and path of artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.

“The show is a love letter to theatre,” said actor Becky Keeshin. “It brings stories that we haven’t heard before about Jewish and Yiddish backgrounds to the stage and really celebrates humanity.”

INDECENT was first produced in 2015 and opened on Broadway in 2017, ultimately winning three Tony Awards. Seven actors came together to bring INDECENT to CATCO’s Columbus stage. Actor Cassandra Bissell plays multiple roles in the show. She describes INDECENT as a play for everybody.

“The play is a piece of history, it is full of wonderful music,” said Bissell. “The show does what all great theatre does. It makes you laugh and will also make you cry, but in the best possible way.”

INDECENT will run through Nov. 20, followed by performances of 9-5, The Musical, But You Could Have Held My Hand, and The Wolves to round out the 2022-23 season.

“This season is all about coming together, seeing live performances in this beautiful space and getting to experience stories you may not hear other places,” said CATCO Artistic Director Lead Hoffmann.
