Gov. DeWine authorizes use of State Disaster Relief Program for storm damage

OHIO — Gov. Mike DeWine authorized the use of the State Disaster Relief Program on Thursday after storms damaged several counties in February, May, June and July.

It’s a reimbursement program that can be used when storm damage amounts don’t meet the requirements for federal assistance, according to DeWine’s office. The program can help with debris removal, emergency protective measures and permanent work.

Ohio has been hit with a slew of powerful storms this year, including six tornadoes that hit across central and southern Ohio in June. Thousands were left without power, some for more than a week. 

The following counties impacted by flooding that occurred on Feb. 17-18 may qualify: 

  • Gallia County
  • Harrison County
  • Jefferson County

The following counties impacted by severe storms that occurred from May 6-8 may qualify: 

  • Monroe County
  • Muskingum County

The following counties impacted by the derecho that occurred from June 13-17 may qualify: 

  • Ashland County
  • Coshocton County
  • Guernsey County
  • Hocking County
  • Holmes County
  • Jackson County
  • Knox County
  • Logan County
  • Meigs County
  • Monroe County
  • Morrow County
  • Noble County
  • Richland County
  • Tuscarawas County
  • Vinton County
  • Washington County
  • Wayne County
