SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Springfield Police Division will be affirming its first woman as chief of the department on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Springfield Police Division Capt. Allison Elliot was appointed by City Manager Bryan Heck on Dec. 16. Her selection will be affirmed by City Commission.
Elliot has 16 years of law enforcement experience . As captain, she oversaw the Uniform Patrol Division and served as a crisis negotiation team manager and as a lieutenant overseeing the Professional Standards unit.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this appointment and I look forward to this next chapter in public service,” said Elliott. “Springfield is a vibrant community that is experiencing an exciting transition of growth and progress. It’s going to be a privilege to lead and work alongside a distinguished and dedicated group of people who take public safety to heart.”
She was among 32 applicants to the postition. Heck said applicants came from across the country.
“Capt. Elliott leads with a true servant’s heart that will help to advance the Division forward,” said Heck. “Her passion for public service, the Springfield community, and commitment to the law enforcement profession shined through during every stage of the police chief recruitment process. We are confident that she will serve the Division, our organization, and the community, with excellence, integrity and distinction.”
Baker Tilly, formerly known as Management Partners, was employed by the city for help recruiting. The firm launched a nationwide search for applicants.
The initial 32 submissions were narrowed down the list of candidates over three phases. She is the first woman to be appointed Chief of Police in the division’s history.
