CLEVELAND — If you’re dreaming of a White Christmas, your dream just might become a reality.

According to Spectrum News 1 meteorologists, a potentially messy winter storm could hit Ohio this weekend, possibly putting a halt on holiday travel.

What You Need To Know

  • A winter storm, expected to hit Ohio late this week, could impact holiday travel
  • Spectrum News 1 meteorologists said many will deal with rain, snow and wind, along with frigid temperatures
  • They said the worst, as of right now, is expected to hit Ohio on Frida,y but snow amounts are currently unknown
  • ODOT said regardless of how bad the weather ends up being this weekend, crews will be ready with plenty of salt for the roadways

Spectrum News 1 meteorologists said many will deal with rain, snow and wind, not to mention some frigid temperatures. The details of the forecast aren’t solid just yet, but the general themes are pretty established. They said confidence in the specifics will increase toward midweek.

“We love it,” Cleveland resident Christopher Reid said about the looming winter storm.

Reid and his wife, Susan, stopped off at the store Monday afternoon to get in a little last-minute shopping, before expressing a sentiment about the storm many others Ohioans don’t seem to be sharing, at the moment.

“Can’t wait for it,” Susan Reid told Spectrum News.

Spectrum News 1 meteorologists said, as of right now, the worst weather is set to hit on Friday. How much snow could hit Ohio, they said, is not yet known, but strong winds and dangerously cold wind chills are a good possibility.

Regardless, the Ohio Department of Transportation said its crews will be prepared.

“We’re going to be ready to go,” said Brent Kovacs, a spokesperson for ODOT. “We’re going to be out plowing and salting throughout the storm.”

And speaking of salt, Kovacs said there’s shortage in sight, saying ODOT has plenty of it, along with plenty of crew members on standby.

“Our plow drivers are really the unsung heroes of the holiday season,” said Kovacs. “They’re going to be working on the roads, making sure you can get safely to your destinations while they’re spending time away from their families.”
