Freddie White, the drummer of Earth, Wind and Fire, has died at 67, according to his brother and bandmate Verdine White, who made the announcement on Sunday.
In an Instagram post, he remembered him as a “child protégé.” Freddie White was a member of the band’s original nine and received gold records at 16.
The post read in part:
“Our family is saddened today With the loss of an amazing and talented family member, Our beloved brother Frederick Eugene ‘Freddie’ White,” Verdine White said. “He joins our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven and is now drumming with the angels!”
He also remembered him as a loving brother.
“But more than that at home and beyond he was the wonderful bro that was always entertaining and delightfully mischievous! And we could always count on him to make a seemingly bad situation more light hearted!” he continued.
