CLEVELAND — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. recognized the power of music throughout the civil rights movement, so it’s more than fitting that a celebration concert is held each year in his honor.
Donna and her daughter, Denys Morgan, have been singing together for Dr. King for about 30 years.
“I found out I was a bad alto, but I am a pretty good tenor, so we both sing tenor together,” Donna said.
As hundreds participated in the celebration, Morgan and her daughter reflected on what this day means to them.
“I would have been at the I have a dream speech, however, it occurred on my graduation day and it was a requirement that I be there,” Donna said.
Denys said the orchestra makes her emotional.
“Once we got on this stage, the orchestra just freedom liberation and that is what this is all about,” she said.
The Cleveland Orchestra said there will be free activities on Monday from 12 p.m to 5 p.m.
