COLUMBUS, Ohio — Faith and community leaders gathered Monday evening in downtown Columbus to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy.
Hundreds gathered outside Lincoln Theater, hearing remarks from city leaders including Mayor Andrew Ginther.
They marched across Long street carrying banners with quotes from Dr. King.
This summer Aug. 28 will mark the 60-year anniversary of the March on Washington, where more than 200,000 people took part in the largest demonstration for human rights in U.S. history.
Those who organized and took part in Monday’s events say the march is symbolic and gives residents to honor the life and accomplishments of doctor king.
“We have not fulfilled the dream he had for our country,” said Carla Williams-Scott, Columbus Director of the Dept of Neighborhoods. “So, our march and our program, gives us an opportunity to come together to hopefully allow us to be able to fully honor the dream that he had for this country.”
