  • Officials are warning residents to stay off roads unless absolutely necessary

The city of Covington Public Works department ordered 400 tons of salt on Monday in preparation to treat roads. The department started putting together a game plan ahead of what could be at least a few inches of snow, possibly mixed with some sleet and rain.

Fifteen route trucks are now dedicated to getting roads cleared.

“We started loading salt this morning, got all the trucks fueled up, ready to hit the road. Tonight we have guys coming in reporting at midnight,” said Jason Roberts, Devou Park Forestry supervisor.

Roberts said crews are hoping to get roads cleared by eight or nine o’clock Wednesday morning. In the meantime, roads will be slick. Roberts said people should stay off roads unless they absolutely have to drive.

“Normally we would run a brine pretreatment. Because of the rain mixture, we’re not gonna do that. We’ve already got some salt on the road from the last couple days,” he said.

People who are out on the roads and see plow trucks should give them the space they need to clear roads, Roberts said.
