zOHIO — Ohio is home to thousands of people from Turkey and Syria. Many are desperately seeking updates about family and friends still living in the regions rocked by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Monday.

The natural disaster has left destruction on both sides of the Turkey-Syria border and rescuers continue to search for survivors.

Haydar Bektas is a Turkish American businessman in Northeast Ohio. He is also a member of the Cleveland American Middle East Organization: C.A.M.E.O.

Bektas provided insight about the area where he grew up, which was hit hard by the earthquake. Bektas says C.A.M.E.O. is partnering with other organizations to seek ways to support people affected by the earthquake.
