AKRON, Ohio — The city of Akron’s Public Art Commission is looking for a person or a group to assist the commission in developing a professional, digital database to inventory and catalogue all the city’s public art.

The aim is to create a comprehensive, searchable database to make it easy for residents and visitors to locate public art around the city and to view the art via the public arts website, the city said.

Proposals are due Tuesday, Feb. 28 by 1 p.m. and can be emailed to the commission or delivered to Akron City Hall, 166 S. High St., Suite 202, Akron 44308.

The Public Art Commission, which falls under the Office of Integrated Development, was created in 2020 to manage all aspects of the city’s Public Art Program. It comprises nine members appointed by the mayor with City Council approval.

The commission serves as a steward of the program and is tasked with reviewing all public art paid for with taxpayer money or installed on public land, the city said.

The city outlined guidelines and requirements for the Public Art Program in an administrative guide available online.

Projected timeline of the overall project:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 28 — applications due by 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 3 — finalize selection
  • Wednesday, April 12 — announcement of selection
  • Wednesday, May 10 — complete 25% of inventory
  • Wednesday, June 14 — complete 75% of inventory
  • Wednesday, July 12 — complete 100% of inventory
  • Wednesday, August 9 — deliver to commission and training walk-through
