OHIO — Do eggs offer heart health benefits, despite cholesterol concerns?

What You Need To Know

  • The American Heart Association suggests one egg (or two egg whites) per day for people who eat them, as part of a healthy diet.
  • Eggs must be refrigerated and should be cooked fully because there’s an increased risk of salmonella with raw eggs.
  • The choline in eggs helps support lifelong brain health at every age and stage, including memory, thinking, mood and more.
  • Creative recipes can make serving eggs affordable for families.

Given the current shortage of eggs, many people are debating whether they want to regularly pay the high price for a dozen.

Health experts advise consulting your personal physician regarding individual recommendations, but extensive research has shown that eggs do not increase heart disease risk. This includes a Harvard study evaluating up to 32 years of data.

In an interview with Spectrum News, nutrition consultant Amy Goodson, MS, RD, CSSD, LD, explained the heart healthy benefits of eating eggs. Click on the video box above for details.
