COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens’ yearly exhibition, Blooms and Butterflies, will return on Feb. 25 and run through May 29.

 What You Need To Know

  • Blooms and Butterflies is an annual exhibition
  • Butterflies from all over the world will be on display
  • The best time to watch the butterflies is during daylight hours with clear skies

The exhibit allows visitors to feel the season of spring returning to Central Ohio.

The Blooms and Butterflies exhibit brings butterflies from around the world to the biggest indoor biome at the Conservatory. An estimate of 12,000 butterflies will be at the exhibit for the event, with 700 to 800 butterflies arriving every week. There will also be approximately 2,500 butterflies flying around the Pacific Island Water Garden.

The butterflies arrive at the Conservatory as cocoons, which are then placed safely inside the Conservatory’s Metamorphosis Lab to turn into butterflies. Guests can view the butterflies in the lab and learn information about the growth stages and their lifecycle.

To view the butterflies in action, the best time is during the day, with clear lighting from the sun. There will be an opening-day celebration on Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost for the exhibit is included with general admission.
