Tropical Storm Arlene has formed in the Gulf of Mexico today, becoming the first named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
Arlene is a tropical storm and currently has winds of 40 mph. There are no watches or warnings in effect.
As we head into the weekend, conditions will likely become unfavorable for further development, so this system will be short-lived.
Models suggest the storm will continue to move south toward Cuba before moving northeast.
