COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans may get a say on whether the state should legalize recreational marijuana.

- The proposal would allow Ohioans 21 and older to buy, possess, and cultivate marijuana
- Election officials will have to validate the signatures before the proposal makes the ballot
The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol just submitted over 200,000 signatures for their proposal on the November ballot.
If it passes, Ohioans age 21 and older would have the right to buy, possess, and cultivate marijuana. The proposal would take the best practices from the 20 states that have already done so.
It includes building off of the existing medical marijuana infrastructure and imposing a 10% tax on products.
“It’s a really good policy to regulate marijuana like alcohol for all adults. It’s something that half the country has done successfully already. We know that we can do this in Ohio. We already have a framework in place to make this a reality,” said Tom Haren, Spokesperson for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol.
Election officials will have to validate the signatures and decide if the coalition has enough before it appears on the ballot.
