  • A shop with professional work clothes will be at places like job fairs later this summer

Chuck Sawyer says he spent decades caught up in the streets and addicted.

“I’m in a recovery center and I’m trying to better myself,” Sawyer said

Now he’s getting fitted for a job interview and his new wardrobe won’t cost him anything.

“It means a lot to me, it means that I can come out, you know, as a normal person,” he said.

The ladies at “Clothes That Work” in Dayton are helping him put the final touches on his new look.

The group provides gently used work clothes to job seekers in need. Executive Director Cindy Garner the says they’ve noticed a shift.

“We started out and 25 years ago as an organization of women serving women and it’s completely flip-flopped…and now we are seeing 61% of our clients are men,” she said.

It’s part of the reason she says they’re trying to expand their reach with an idea on a piece of paper she told us about last year that’s now a reality.

“This is truly a dream come true. We have talked about it for years and years and years,” Garner said.

With the help of grants and donations, the group just opened a mobile store.

“If we can go to where our clients are and make that eliminate that transportation barrier, I think then we’ve we’ve it’s a win-win for everybody,” said Garner.

She says they’re hoping to help at least 500 people in the mobile shop over the next year and Sawyer is the first one.

“It took me 46 years to do this and I’ve very proud of what I’ve done,” said Sawyer.
