TAMPA, Fla. — Three decades in law enforcement helped Tampa Mayor Jane Castor immediately realize what she was seeing during a recent fishing vacation with her family.

“Cocaine,” she told her younger sister.

The family was enjoying time off in the Florida Keys late last month when they spotted a package in the water.

Our partners at the Tampa Bay Times reported that U.S. Border Patrol confirmed 70 pounds of cocaine worth more than $1 million was in the package.

The family hauled the package onto their boat, Castor saved the location on her watch, and they later called the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to report the finding.

Federal agents arrived and took the package away.

Walter Slosar, chief patrol agent with the Border Patrol’s Miami sector, posted a picture of the cocaine bricks on Twitter, referring to Castor as a recreational boater.

According to the Times, the mayor’s family spent the rest of their vacation catching about 60 lobsters.
