GROVE CITY, Ohio – An intensive care unit technician is going above and beyond to boost morale at the hospital where she works.

  • Morgan Sheehan has been working in the ICU at Mount Carmel Grove City for just over a year
  • Because of the pandemic, she’s taking extra steps to help the staff and patients
  • She’s hoping little gestures will make this tough time a little easier

Morgan Sheehan has been working in the ICU at Mount Carmel Grove City for just over a year.

“I came in during the second wave of the pandemic,” said Sheehan. “And it was interesting.”

As the fight against COVID-19 continues, Sheehan said so do the deaths.

“Nurses are losing their whole team of patients in one day,” said Sheehan. “So I just started showing up at the nurses side and sitting with the patients as they passed.”

That’s not all she’s been doing. With visitation restrictions still in place, she’s made it her goal to boost morale among patients and staff.

“For the last couple years, I’ve lived my life by this motto: Show up and be faithful. Every day, that looks different,” said Sheehan. “Sometimes it’s sitting and talking with patients, talking with nurses and sometimes it’s bringing coloring books for the patients who don’t like to watch TV.”

She said she’s also working to connect these patients with their loved ones.

“Recently, I created a handprint for a patient and he had a young daughter, and I just told the patient’s wife well even when he’s with us she still deserves to hold his hand.”

Sheehan said it’s the little gestures that make a big impact.

“We become the patients’ family,” she said. “There can’t be that many people in the hospital right now visiting, and I just want the family that’s out there that can’t come to us to connect to their loved ones, too.”
