AKRON, Ohio — The Sugar Plum Tour of Holiday Homes will mark 21years this holiday season, offering Akron-area attendees a look inside five lavishly decorated homes.
Proceeds from the tour benefit the Gay Community Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation, which makes grants that aim to further equality for the area’s LGBTQ+ community.
The Sugar Plum Tour features historic and contemporary homes with festive displays that include sparkling lights, roaring fires and fragrant wreaths and trees in neighborhoods around the Greater Akron area, the group said in a release.

The tour runs 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4. A virtual tour on Saturday, Dec. 10 and Sunday, Dec. 11 will feature professionally filmed tours of eight holiday homes.
This year, homes on the tour include:
- a 1948 Georgian colonial in West Akron with original oak floors complete with a bar and home theater;
- a 1967 ranch home renovated to showcase a wide-open floor plan in Fairlawn;
- a 1953 West Akron mid-century modern home with wide, floor-to-ceiling windows;
- a 1926 Cotswold Tudor in Fairlawn Heights with arches throughout and a renovated kitchen; and
- a 1922 Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired bungalow in Highland Square with hardwood floors and Craftsman nooks and built-ins.
A raffle for a rainbow tree will be open to any tour attendee who posts a photo with the tree on social media using the hash tag #FREE2BeMeTree.
Last year’s Sugar Plum Tour raised more than $200,000 to support GCEF grants that helped expand outreach to aging LGBTQ+ adults and provide gender-affirming health care for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, the group said.
Grants also were made to support young LGBTQ+ people experiencing housing instability and to create a mental-health hub offering suicide prevention services, family support groups and outreach programming, the group said. View descriptions of the grants on the fund’s website.
