What You Need To Know

  • Dinesh Sunar holds five Guinness World Records in parkour
  • Sunar said he learned how to do parkour by watching action movies
  • He said he’s been practicing his newest flip for nearly six years

Dinesh Sunar thinks parkour shouldn’t be considered a sport.

“I always say that it’s like a really fun game,” Sunar said.

According to Parkour.com, the athletic activity challenges athletes to move from one point to another by leaping, jumping or climbing through natural or urban environments. It’s a talent that’s earned Sunar five Guinness World Records.

“So, I am feeling so proud of this parkour, because I have done five times the World Guinness Record holder [in] this parkour game, which is [a] very proud moment for me [and] for my country,” Sunar said.

Sunar said he learned the game by watching famous martial artists perform back when he lived in his native country, Nepal.

“I used to watch action movies from Tony Jaa [and] Bruce Lee,” Sunar said.

He said these action heroes inspired him to go for another world record.

“I am trying to do the folding on the wall, by doing the flip on the wall, by tying my hand[s],” Sunar said.

Using cuffs to restrict his hands, Sunar will run up against a wall and complete a flip by relying on the support of his core strength. He said he’ll attempt this flip to tryout for “America’s Got Talent.”

“I have been practicing this [for] 6-7 years — I have been practicing this, this movement,” Sunar said. “So, it has been a long, long journey to get here.”

Sunar added that he submitted an online audition for the talent competition and hopes to represent his country on the show.

“In our country, Nepal, there is not any kind of good field for parkour. It’s very hard. So, I am trying to work on that too — like to be a good example in that field in Nepal,” Sunar said.

It’s a dream that would challenge all of people who said he would never get this far competing in parkour.

“I didn’t listen to them. I [kept] going,” Sunar said.

Sunar said he wants to welcome others to the parkour community and will train with those who are interested in learning the sport.
