Akron Municipal Court’s summer wedding offerings include Oscar Mayer Frankmobile ceremony

AKRON, Ohio — Akron Municipal Court is offering couples an array of nontraditional outdoor wedding locations this summer, including an opportunity to be married in the presence of the iconic Oscar Mayer Frankmobile.

All five wedding locations are outdoors in Akron. Available sites and dates in July, August and September include:

Firestone Stadium with the Oscar Mayer Frankmobile, 1575 Firestone Pkwy.

  • Monday, July 17, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Couples who marry will receive free hot dogs
  • Judge Nicole Walker Judge will officiate

Cascade Locks Park Mustill Store, 57 W. North St.

  • Friday, July 28, 10:30 a.m. to Noon
  • Some weddings will overlap with the venue’s weekly Free Lunch Friday event, which features grilled hot dogs and live music

People’s Park in North Hill, 760 Elma St.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 8, 10:30 a.m. to noon
  • Outdoor tables will be available for couples who wish to bring food or cake for their own mini reception
  • Officiating judge to be determined

Hower House Museum, on the University of Akron Campus, 60 Fir Hill

  • Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Judge Ron Cable will officiate

All-American Soap Box Derby start line at Derby Downs, 789 Derby Downs

  • Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Judge Jon Oldham will officiate

 Hower House Museum, on the University of Akron Campus, 60 Fir Hill

  • Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Officiating judge to be determined

Couples who invite friends and family to their ceremony should limit the number of guests to 10 or fewer.

Appointments for ceremonies are first-come, first-served and once all appointments are booked no time slots can be added, officials said. Appointments must be paid before the date of the ceremony.

To be married, couples must obtain a marriage license from Summit County Probate Court.

Couples also pay a cash-only ceremony fee at Akron Municipal Court in the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. The justice center is located at 217 S. High St. in downtown Akron.

The fee is based on whether couples live within the court’s jurisdiction area, which includes Akron, Fairlawn, Bath, Richfield, Springfield Township, Lakemore and the Summit County portion of Mogadore. 

Contact the Akron Municipal Court’s Chief Service Bailiff Patricia Williams at 330-375-2592 to ensure space is still available before obtaining a marriage license or for questions about scheduling.
