Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary used big second and fourth quarters to get one step closer to winning a second straight state title, with a 72-47 win over Alter in the first OHSAA Division II state semifinal.

The Irish outscored the Knights 19-6 in the second quarter, and 26-12 in the fourth, closing with a 16-2 run to pull away. Alter was within five at 36-31 midway through the third.

Ramar Pryor was the game-high scorer with 23 for SVSM, followed by Sincere Harris’ 18. Darius Stratford had 10 points and a massive first half dunk that brought the University of Dayton Arena crowd to its feet.

Alter got 13 each from juniors A.J. Leen and Anthony Ruffolo, the latter of which was three of four from 3-point land.

St. Vincent-St. Mary’s tempo was a huge key in this game, forcing 10 Knights’ turnovers, which were parlayed into 30 points. The Fighting Irish also scored 42 fast-break points.

SVSM will attempt to capture an OHSAA record 10th state title Sunday when it faces the winner of Gilmour Academy and Waverly.
