CINCINNATI — To recognize high school students who get it done, not only on the playing field — but in the classroom as well — it’s time to honor the Scholar Athletes of the Week. This week’s honorees come from West Clermont High School.

First, Kimberly Allen is a senior cheerleader for the Wolves, who carries a 4.38 GPA.

She has already earned enough credits to graduate last year, so all of her coursework now is going toward her freshman year in college.

She said she hopes to attend the University of Louisville next year, majoring in American Sign Language so she can become an interpreter and continue her career as a cheerleader.

Kimberly said she’s so proud to earn Scholar Athlete of the Week.

“It really means a ton to me,” she said. “It’s probably the best accomplishment of my high school career so far. I do work really hard. I take hard courses, like I said, CCP, AP, all honors. So to know that is being recognized by people in the school and outside the school is really a huge deal.”

Joining her this week is senior wide receiver Xander Kraemer.

Xander carries a 4.41 GPA and also takes all honor AP and college courses. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew, and is a leader for the football team.

Xander is undecided on where he wants to attend college, but knows he wants to study computer science.

He’s excited to earn Scholar Athlete of the Week because it shows that his hard work is paying off.

“It’s really hard,” Kraemer said. “I really never get much free time, especially after football. I kind of got to manage my time pretty well, go straight to homework and studying and all that. It gets really hard sometimes, but it makes me feel good, makes me feel like I’m being noticed for once.”

Both students have bright futures ahead of them.
