  • Argentina won the World Cup
  • They won for the first time since 1986

Delfina Cavrsaschi is from Argentina living in downtown Cleveland, and she said Argentina’s World Cup victory means everything to her country.

“We live for soccer,” she said. “We love the World Cup. We love Messi. We love our players. We love our sport, and we think we are the best in the world even if they bring the World Cup or if they don’t.”

But luckily for Cavrsaschi, Lionel Messi and her country won the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

“I am beyond happy,” she said. “I cannot believe it. I cannot believe it. I am going to drink Fernet, which is an Argentinian drink, and I am gonna get super drunk, and I have to go to work, but who cares — we are going to celebrate around here.”

Juliana Kening was chanting muchachos during the game, a popular unofficial anthem of Argentine fans at the World Cup. She came from Argentina five years ago, and said today, she feels at home.

“Being here is very special because we are far from our people from our home,” she said.

The icing on top for these fans is their favorite player, Messi, winning his first ever World Cup.

“Seeing Argentina champions, this has been my dream,” she said. “Seeing Messi a champion, he’s just the best. We love him so much. He is our God.”
