At least 16 rail cars involved in train derailment, may cause delays in Ravenna Township

RAVENNA, Ohio — A Norfolk Southern train derailed Tuesday evening around 7:11 p.m. in Ravenna Township, according to the Portage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s Facebook page, Portage Prepares.

The derailment occurred near South Prospect Street and State Route 44. According to a news release, an estimated 16 rail cars transporting rock salt and other materials were involved in the derailment. 

No hazardous materials were released in the derailment. Officials expect delays to continue throughout the morning.
