CINCINNATI — A first-time local author is now a first-time bookstore owner and trying to help kids become authors too.

What You Need To Know

  • J.M. Clark left work in banking to start writing in 2018, within a year he authored a science-fiction trilogy
  • He’s set to open a new book store in Cincinnati on April 18
  • Within the first month of opening, Clark is planning to have writing classes up and running to help kids become authors

“It kinda started there, just being a writer and being in book stores while writing, cause I write outside of the house,” said Clark.

Clark said within a year, he wrote The Palace Program, a science fiction trilogy.

“I actually wrote all three books within a year’s span, so I was like really into it, and I was inspired by different fiction books that I was into at the time,” said Clark.

Now he wants to help everyone, from adults to kids, find a passion for writing, something he said wasn’t always so clear to him as a kid.

“Coming up, I didn’t have a whole lot of help and I was into writing but I didn’t know how to do it, I was a reader and I had creativity in my brain, but I didn’t know how to go about the business of writing a book,” said Clark.

He said he plans to start free classes to teach how to write and publish fiction books.

“Now that I do have this knowledge and this skill set, I think there are other kids out there who are like me, who just need someone to point them in the right direction,” said Clark.

He said eventually, after he opens the doors April 18, he hopes to carry books from new writers on the shelves at The Tome, his new store.

“Bookstores are dying now, and we want to do what we can to keep them going,” said Clark.

Clark said he hopes to have the free writing classes up and running within the first month of opening the store at 2123 Beechmont Ave. in Cincinnati.
