BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns are set to play their first of three preseason exhibitions on Saturday and head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Baker Mayfield will sit out.

Stefanski added that he’ll provide more details on who will play on Saturday during his Thursday news conference.

“Baker is not going to play in this game,” he said. “I will give you that. I will let you guys know tomorrow. I will give you a rundown tomorrow.”

With an upcoming 17-game regular season, a number of NFL teams are expected to rest many of their starters for much if not all of the preseason. In last week’s exhibition opener between Dallas and Pittsburgh, the game mostly consisted of backups and training camp signees.

Because of inclement weather, the Browns practiced indoors on Wednesday in preparation for their upcoming exhibition in Jacksonville.

While the Browns didn’t have access to their outdoor facility on Wednesday, Stefanski said the team continued to get its work in.

“Obviously, we would prefer to be outside if we can,” he said. “Unfortunately, we have to go inside. The good news is we are working red zone today and we are working goal line today so those are smaller area drills, if you will. We have been in there before with the full team. We will space out as much as we can.

“The intensity ramps up when you are inside, there is shorter area and you are not running from one field to the other.”
