CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — To beat the summer heat, many people head to a movie theater to cool off.
This weekend, movie theaters may be busier than normal with both the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” movies premiering nationwide.
Margot Gordon, the house manager at The Cedar Lee Theater, said people are excited for these movies.
“It’s the ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ opening day so lots of people coming out to see this double feature,” she said.
Some people are planning to see both movies on the same day, back-to-back, which Gordon says is good for business.
“Probably the first really big one since the pandemic started so it’s nice that people are excited to come to the movies again,” she said.
The Cedar Lee hosted an advanced showing of the movies Thursday night. Gordon said she saw Barbie and Oppenheimer-themed outfits.
“Last night we had around at least like 100, 150 presales for the 7:30 Barbie. Tonight we have around 150 again and there’s about like 50 for Oppenheimer,” she said.
People are calling the phenomenon “Barbenheimer” and theaters across the country will get increased business because of it.
