CINCINNATI – A boil water advisory is in effect for several West Side neighborhoods until Wednesday at 8 p.m. due to a water main break near Central Parkway in Over-the-Rhine, officials said.

What You Need To Know

  • The advisory is the result of a water main break near Central Parkway
  • Greater Cincinnati Water Works issued the warning for parts of several West Side neighborhoods
  • It remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday

The advisory extends along a section of the I-75 corridor, according to Greater Cincinnati Water Works. Boundary areas for the advisory are:

  • North boundary – Interstate 74
  • South boundary – Mehring Way/River Road
  • East boundary – Central Parkway/Plum Street
  • West boundary – State Street/Beekman Street

Those affected by the advisory include residents of parts of West End, Camp Washington, Lower Price Hill, South Fairmont, North Fairmont, South Cumminsville, Millvale, western Over-the-Rhine and Queensgate, according to Water Works.

The Environmental Protection Agency recommends taking the following actions to restore water clarity and reduce possible lead exposure:

  • If water has not been used for several hours, run the tap until it is noticeably cooler
  • Let the water run through all taps for at least three minutes before using it for drinking or cooking
  • Use cold water for cooking, drinking, and preparing baby formula.
  • Boiling water will not reduce lead.
  • Clean or replace your faucet filter/aerator regularly.

Water Works stressed that the advisory was a precaution. It’s not clear what caused the water main break.
