BEREA, Ohio — Some fans who showed up at the Cleveland Browns training camp shared their feelings about quarterback Deshaun Watson’s six-game suspension.

What You Need To Know

  • Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended for six games
  • This decision comes from NFL disciplinary officer and retired federal judge Sue L. Robinson
  • Watson’s suspension won’t start until the first game of the season so he is still at training camp
  • Browns fans had differing opinions on the suspension

Twenty-four women accused Watson of sexual misconduct, and he settled 23 of the civil lawsuits against him.

Former federal judge and NFL disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson issued her ruling Aug. 1 and said Watson violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

“This is probably the best team we’ve had in years, honestly,” said Hendrock Damon, a Browns fan. “I mean, it says it on paper and just watching it and seeing Deshaun out there throw the ball is like nothing I’ve seen before. So he’s going to be a beast.”

Others were a little unsure about the situation.

“I feel like half of me says six games way too much, and then the other, politically correct side of me says six games is way too little,” said Jake Ward, another fan.

Watson was still on the field during training camp because his suspension won’t start until the first game of the season.

Both the NFL Players Association and Watson released a joint statement that said that they will stand by the ruling and ask the NFL to do the same.

The NFL still has 3 days to appeal the decision in writing.

Browns Head Coach Kevin Steffanski addressed the media after practice and explained that his team still has a plan.

“I am going to remain [with] what we have said all along about Deshaun the person,” Steffanski said. “I would mention Deshaun has said it, that he is working to be the best version of himself. He is committed to that. He said that publicly, he said that privately and I believe that.”
