COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye fans held a candlelight vigil outside Ohio Stadium Tuesday to honor former quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who died Saturday in Florida.

Ohio State fan Ryan Gunn said the news is hard to process, but he’s happy to see Buckeye Nation rally together.

“I’ve been coming to Ohio State for the past 10 years,” said Gunn. “This is special for the Buckeye community. It’s sad we lost one of our own.”

Former OSU players Cardale Jones and Chris Olave attended the vigil. Some of the players shared words about Haskins. After that, fans like Amaya Ross took turns dropping their candles off in front of the memorial.

“I am a student here but I also work in the Admissions Office for bringing students here,” said Ross. “Mainly in the recruitment aspect of bringing athletes to Ohio State.”

She said she woke up to the news that Haskins died after being struck by a truck.

“It’s hard to lose one of your own, and these people are your family as well, and you’ve lost one,” said Ross.

Haskins, 24, led OSU to both a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl win in 2018.
