Pam Ferguson is a proud football mom.

“My son is Colin Ferguson. He’s a senior at Carey. He plays on the offensive line, left tackle,” said Ferguson.

The self-described football mom owns a gas station in Carey that is one of many decorated to support the Blue Devils.

“This town is completely pumped up. We are pretty excited we have decorations all over town, and we haven’t been here since 1975,” said Ferguson.

It’s been more than 46 years since Carey has brought home a state championship, and this Saturday, they will battle Coldwater in Canton for the Division VI state title.

“Everybody is excited. Little work is getting done, I feel, but we are looking forward to Saturday and bringing home another victory like in 1975,” said John Hall, a Carey resident.

“Ever since we were in 6th grade, the boys in my class had always talked about going to state when we were seniors in high school, and here we are. It’s finally happening,” said Taylor Brodman, a senior at Carey High School.

Carey made it to the state regional finals two years ago, so now they have players with experience at playoff football.

“We have 15 great seniors. They bond really, really well together, and I think that’s what’s making our team. We have great leadership,” said Ferguson.

Carey’s leadership will be tested as the football team battles Coldwater on Saturday at 3 p.m.
